Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-09-14. Too Many Comics is published by BigBrainCorp LLC.
The short version
Your comic collection lives on your phone. There are no accounts and no logins, so we do not know who you are. We never receive your collection, your sale records, or what you paid. What leaves your device is only what a single request needs: a photograph you ask us to analyze, with any comments you attached to it, or the details of the books you ask us to re-price, a few at a time. We do not keep the photographs. We keep a book's details in exactly two narrow cases, both described below.
The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no third-party tracking code of any kind.
There is no account
Too Many Comics has no sign-up, no login, no password, and no profile. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, or location, so we do not have them.
To stop strangers from running up our AI bill, the app proves it is a genuine copy running on a real iPhone, using Apple's App Attest. That produces an anonymous key that is generated inside your device's secure hardware and never leaves it. We store the resulting public identifier so we can keep track of a credit balance. It is a random string. It is not linked to your Apple ID, your name, or anything else about you, and it cannot be used to identify you.
What stays on your device
All of it, essentially:
- Every photograph you take, at full quality.
- Your entire inventory: titles, issues, grades, prices, boxes, collections, comments, and notes.
- Your sale records, purchase prices, and profit and loss figures.
- Which books you own, which is why Hot Books matches industry news against your collection on your phone. The news feed is the same for everyone; the matching happens locally, so the result never travels back to us.
This data is not synced to any BigBrainCorp server. If you want a copy or a backup, the app's export and backup features hand it to you directly.
What is sent to our servers, and why
Only when you ask for AI analysis, and only what that analysis needs:
- The photograph being analyzed, resized for upload. For Advanced Grading this may be several photographs of the same book.
- Comments you attached, typed or spoken, since those are how you correct and guide the analysis. Spoken comments are transcribed on your device by iOS; we receive text, never audio.
- Existing details of the book when you ask for a correction or a re-price, so the analysis can improve on what it said before instead of starting over: the title, issue, publisher, cover date, condition, and the previous estimate. A batch re-price sends those details for each book in the batch, ten books per request, so refreshing a whole box sends them for every book in it, one batch at a time.
- Your anonymous device token, so we can check your credit balance.
We use these to produce the result and return it. We do not store your photographs. They are processed and discarded.
What we do store
All of it keyed to the anonymous identifier described above, never to you:
- Your credit balance and your last twenty credit events, so the app can show you where your credits went. For a scan or a grading, the event names the book's title, the same way the app's own activity list does.
- Usage counts per request: a timestamp, which operation ran, which AI model answered, and how many tokens it used. This is how we reconcile our own bill and notice if somebody is abusing the service. It records a truncated form of the anonymous identifier and nothing about the comic.
- Rate limiting counters, so no single device can run away with the service.
- Details of a book whose batch price estimate failed: the title, issue, publisher, cover date, and condition we priced from, and the reason the estimate came back empty. This is kept so that retrying the same book unchanged costs you nothing, and it is deleted the moment a retry succeeds.
- The attested public key for your installation, and a counter that prevents replay.
- A record of content-filter refusals per installation. If a device repeatedly submits material the AI service refuses, that matters to our standing with our provider. We store when each refusal happened and the photo's internal identifier, never the photo or anything in it, and old entries expire.
- Redeemed purchase identifiers, so a credit pack cannot be redeemed twice, and whether Apple later refunded each one, so the credits it bought can be taken back.
None of this includes your photographs, your collection, or any personal detail about you. The two places a book's details appear on our side are the activity list and the failed-estimate record above, both keyed to the anonymous identifier and nothing else.
Who else is involved
Microsoft Azure hosts our service and provides the AI that analyzes your photographs, through Azure OpenAI. Your photograph and comments are processed there under Microsoft's terms. Microsoft's service can retain inputs for a limited period for abuse monitoring; it does not use them to train models.
Apple handles every purchase. We never see your payment details, billing address, or Apple ID. We receive only a signed confirmation that a specific credit pack was bought, which is what tells us to add the credits. Apple also tells us, in the same signed form, when a purchase has been refunded, so that we can remove the credits it bought. Apple's App Attest also provides the anonymous device verification described above.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone else, because we do not have anything worth selling.
Children
Too Many Comics is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, which is rather the point.
Your control
Delete the app and your collection is gone, because it only ever lived on your device. Back it up first if you want to keep it. What remains on our side is the anonymous credit balance, its activity list, and the usage counts, none of which identifies you. If you would like that record deleted anyway, write to us and we will remove it; note that this also removes any credits you have purchased.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the effective date at the top and post the new version here. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.
